Air source heat pumps
Air source heat pumps when sized correctly in an insulated property, can reduce your energy bills. It is always recommended that your home is insulated as air source heat pumps work continuously at a lower ambient temperature. This is a different way of heating your home as most people are used to turning on the heating when they are cold, and turning it off as much as possible… with an air source heat pump, the heating and hot water takes a little longer to reach the required temperature, so it is best practice to keep this running constantly, maintaining a comfortable ambient temperature. This is harder when heat is escaping from your walls if they are uninsulated.
But providing your walls and roof are well insulated, an air source heat pump is a fantastic renewable heating option. We would always recommend pairing an air source heat pump with solar PV (Photovoltaic) which generated electricity from daylight, meaning that whenever you have daylight you’ll have electricity generation, which then powers your air source heat pump for free!
Air source heat pumps are part of the governments aim to be come ‘net zero’ by 2050. Net Zero is a term meaning, that we will not need to use fossil fuels, and can rely solely on renewable energy such as solar, wind and tidal powers. Part of this ambition from the government is to install 600,000 air source heat pumps by 2028, so expect to see a lot of installations taking place in months to come.
See more information on our funding and finance sections to see if you could have this renewable energy funded under the ECO 4 scheme, through paying for this with finance or through an alternative government scheme such as BUS – the boiler upgrade scheme
