ECO 4 funding applies to home owners and private rented tenants living in domestic properties.

For anyone who lives in a social housing property or is council owned should contact their council or social housing landlord for details on improvements that can be made on their home.  Unfortunately we cannot help with improvements on your home without a contract from your social housing provider, as they own your home.

ECO 4 is funding which is granted when both a property AND the household qualify.  For the property to quality it has to be an E, F or G rated property when an assessment is carried out.  We must complete an assessment to establish this in the first instance (see about us for more information on the process).  Some D rated properties may also be eligible, but funding for this property rating is lower and not always available.

For the household to qualify either someone living in the property must be on a means tested benefit (see list of qualifying benefits below) or your home must be in one of the council areas which operates an ‘ECO Flex’ scheme and qualify via that route instead.  We must also have permission from your council to work in your area.

Qualifying means tested ECO benefits:

• Income Support
• Income based Jobseekers Allowance
• Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
• Pension Credit (Guaranteed)
• Housing Benefit
• Working Tax Credits
• Child Tax Credits
• Universal Credit
• Child Benefit (annual income caps apply – see table below)

In order for your household to qualify under ECO 4 Flex, someone in the household must have a health condition which is made worse by the cold OR your household income must be under £31,000 per year.  Details of this are taken by using P60’s, bank statements or wage slips.  We must ensure that personal information, not needed as evidence, is redacted.  So please be assured that we take your privacy very seriously.  See our privacy policy for more information at the foot of this page.  

If you, or anyone else in your household, have a health condition made worse by the cold, this can be confirmed by a telephone consultation with a private GP which we can arrange.   We understand that getting in to see your doctor can be challenging at the best of times and we will cover the cost of this to help with your application for funding.

ECO 4 funding is complicated, but we strive to keep the process as simple and stress free as possible for you.  Our team will guide you through each stage and are always on hand to explain if you have any questions.

The aim of ECO 4 is to help the most inefficient homes be more energy efficient, by bringing their energy rating from an F or G up to a D or an E rating up to a C as a minimum.

We will always aim to improve your energy efficiency rating to the highest we can with the funding we have available.  Often we can install a renewable heating system such as an air source heat pump alongside solar PV which means the sun will provide power to fuel your heat pump and heat your home!  This will drastically reduce your energy bills.  A win for you and a win for the planet too!
